Bohol Economic Factbook

Bohol Province is an island in the heart of the Philippines. Its strategic and accessible location in the bustling Central Visayas region – the fourth largest economy in the country, makes Bohol an attractive tourist destination and a very promising location for investments. The tenth largest island in the Philippines, it boasts of 654 kilometers of coastline, 7 major river basins, and one of the most biologically diverse mangrove ecosystems in the world. In fact, Bohol’s incomparable natural beauty, rich history, and culture make it an ideal tropical haven with the amenities and comforts of modern living.

Bohol’s primary asset is her people who are known to be diligent, persevering, courteous and hospitable. It has a population of around 1.4 million people that contributes 17% in the region. A high percentage of 68.2% of the population are in the labor force. Boholanos have a high literacy rate of 98%. With tertiary educational institutions dispersed in the municipalities making education more accessible to the local populace, Bohol’s labor force contributes to the skilled workforce in the Visayas.

Panglao Island in Bohol has been recognized as the top investment destination for tourism in 2024, according to the Philippine Investment Outlook Survey, surpassing other destinations such as Boracay, Palawan, and Siargao. Bohol emerged as the province with the highest investment interest, capturing 41 percent of over 10,000 respondents from the tourism and accommodation industry. It is now considered the next top destination for high-spending foreign tourists.
