The newly compiled online Provincial Atlas (PA) and Provincial Data Directory (PDD) was presented by Atty. John Titus Vistal, Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator, to the Management Executive Board (MEB), which is presided by Governor Edgar Chatto, during its March 2nd regular meeting at the People’s Mansion in Tagbilaran City. Atty. Vistal explained that the PA and PDD are both part of the Incentive Target on Planning and Budgeting by the Provincial Roads Management Facility (PRMF). Its nature is more of planning rather than budget-related, which will increase the capacity of the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh) and its stakeholders to access and use information in their decision-making, and will increase opportunities for collaboration.
The PRMF outputs (PA and PDD) are primarily hard copies, but required to be published online in order to give access to virtually everyone in the world to Bohol information.
On the homepage of bohol.gov.ph website, as well as in PPDO Bohol’s website, one needs to click on the link to Provincial Atlas. This was originally intended for Roads Sector only. But with the availability of many maps, it grew into something bigger and there are more maps to be uploaded yet by the PA Team.
Like a telephone directory, the PDD contains information on the extent of data available from the PGBh agencies, who to contact, and how to access the information. Atty. Vistal informed that since the PGBh already has the data, the PDD Team decided to include a link for users to download the data. For access to the PDD, one just needs to click on the link to Provincial Data Directory in the homepage of bohol.gov.ph website.
The Provincial Atlas was jointly prepared by Engr. Willy Bueno with the Sector Heads of the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO), Engr. Richard Bompat of the Provincial Engineer’s Office (PEO), Mr. Senen “Bong” Bojos with his team from the Bohol Information and Communication Technology Unit (BICTU). On the other hand, the PDD was made possible through the joint efforts of PPDO Sector Heads, Mr. Bojos and BICTU Team, and the individual point persons per office. Both the PA and PDD Teams were guided by the PRMF Provincial Coordinator, Ms. Rosalinda Paredes, and assisted Ms. May Blanco, Consultant.
Atty. Vistal thanked the PA and PDD Teams for their hard work, PRMF’s Ms. Paredes and Ms. Blanco for their guidance and assistance, and Governor Edgar Chatto for his continued support and inspiration.
This is a good initiative of PGBh sharing the publicly available data open to the world. This will be an important element open data for common reason of transparency, social and commercial value, participation and engagement. I hope to see these data portals evolve in time and live up the importance and standards of open data.
